The note describes ongoing research in Northern Province, Zambia, being conducted in collaboration with the Institute of African Studies, University of Zambia. The research examines the current nutritional and health problems of the area in longitudinal perspective, focusing on one rural area, Mpika Disrict. In particular, it documents changes in the sexual division of labour and in the agricultural system generally over the last 50 years, and examines the possible effect of these changes on the health and welfare of the people of the area, especially women and children.
