Plasma protein-bound iodine (PBI) was measured on 13 occasions during 57 days after calving in 10 buffaloes during summer and 10 during winter. Values were lower in summer than in winter, and lower in buffaloes requiring less than 30 days for uterine involution than in those requiring more than 30 days; they were lowest in buffaloes requiring more than 50 days for restoration of ovarian follicular development. It was concluded that thyroid function was depressed during summer and in infertile buffaloes.
