Ten strains of virus were isolated from wild mallard (4 strains), teal (4), and shoveller (2) ducks in Hokkaido during the hunting seasons of 1982 and 1985. Six were identified as avian influenzavirus subtypes H3N8 (4 strains), H4N6 and H6N2. The other isolates were paramyxovirus subtypes 1 (2 strains) and 4 (2 strains).
