First simultaneous isolation of influenza A virus and duck enteritis virus from commercial ducks in France

In January, 1985, duck enteritis herpesvirus infection (duck plague) was diagnosed on two duck farms in the Landes area of France from the clinical signs, lesions and isolation of the virus. Influenza A viruses of subtype H11N9 (A/duck/Aquitaine/472/85 and A/duck/Aquitaine 1753/85) were also isolated. Experimental infection of newborn ducks with the influenza viruses did not induce any clinical or histopathological effects.
