Active immunization of White Pekin ducks against duck virus enteritis (duck plague) with modified-live-virus vaccine: immunization of ducklings

Serial batches of a duck virus enteritis modified live-virus vaccine were safety- and potency-tested in 260 one- to nine-day-old ducklings. No undesirable reactions other than two non-specific deaths occurred. On challenge, 176 out of 200 controls, but only two of the vaccinated birds died. Varying dilutions of vaccine were given to 779 ducklings in 50%- and 90%-protective dose tests. The 10-7 dilution gave no protection, and 10-1 complete protection against challenge.
