The response of Plasmodium falciparum to 25 mg base/kg body weight chloroquine was studied in 104 indigenous malaria patients at Muheza Hospital in north eastern Tanzania. Overall, 46.2% of patients showed resistance to chloroquine. The resistance was most prevalent in infants (80%); it dropped with increasing age and was only 26.7% in patients above 15 years of age.
