Response to 600 mg amodiaquine base with 45 mg primaquine as presumptive treatment in chloroquine resistant Plasmodium falciparum infection in Assam

Amodiaquine (600 mg base) plus primaquine (45 mg base) per adult was given to 132 persons infected with Plasmodium falciparum in Assam, India, where chloroquine resistance had previously been reported. In 57 (43.2%) the asexual parasites persisted on day 7 and in 20 cases the count increased during this period. There was no advantage in giving amodiaquine instead of chloroquine.
