Results of treatment with 600 mg. base of chloroquine and 45 mg base of primaquine in P. falciparum in Greater Nicobar and Little Andaman Islands

Ten persons from Campbell Bay (Greater Nicobar Island) and 15 from Hut Bay (Little Andaman Islands) with asexual stages of Plasmodium falciparum in their blood were given 600 mg base chloroquine plus 45 mg primaquine as a single dose, or, if under 14 years of age, a proportion of this dose. In Campbell Bay, all patients showed complete parasite clearance by day 7, whereas 6 of the patients from Hut Bay still had parasitaemia (in 2 the parasitaemia was higher than before treatment). Gametocytes were detected in only 2 persons from Campbell Bay and were cleared from the blood by day 7.
