Stool examination of 2 tribal groups, the Onges and Nicobarese settlers in Little Andaman and the Nicobarese in Great Nicobar islands, India, showed a high degree of polyparasitism. Prevalence rates for Trichuris ranged from 21 to 83%, for Ascaris from 13 to 46% and for hookworms from 13 to 25%. Among the Nicobarese living on the west coast of Great Nicobar, 40% were also infected with Entamoeba histolytica. E. coli, E. hartmanni, Embadomonas intestinalis, Iodamoeba buetschlii, Chilomastix mesnili, Giardia lamblia, Isospora hominis, Hymenolepis nana, Strongyloides stercoralis and Enterobius vermicularis were also reported.
