Susceptibility of common mosquito species of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to insecticides

Adult and larval susceptibility tests of field populations of common anopheline and culicine mosquitoes of Andaman and Nicobar islands against DDT, dieldrin and BHC were undertaken during Nov. 1979. Both larval and adult forms of Anophela sundaicus (malaria vector species of the island) and A. tessellatus were highly susceptible to DDT. A. vagus was resistant to DDT and dieldrin in the adult stage, but larval stages were highly susceptible to DDT and BHC. Among culicines, adults of Culex quinquefasciatus (= C. fatigans) showed a high degree of resistance to DDT, while larval stages of C. tritaeniorhynchus, Aedes aegypti and A. albopictus showed high susceptibility to DDT.
