Treatment of enterobiasis with mebendazole

The effect of mebendazole (Vermox) has been examined in three nursery schools of Budapest in children infested with Enterobius vermicularis. Among the 75 parasite-carrier nursery-school children of 3-6 years of age 72 children became parasite-free after the administration of a single 100 mg mebendazole dose (96%) as proved by the results of control examinations following treatment. According to the results it has been concluded that the advantage of the drug is, in addition to its effectivity, that it may be given in a single dose independently of meals and hours of the day.
