Groups of C. bitaeniorhynchus females (exposed to A. culicis or tetracycline when first instar larvae) were fed on a chick infected with Japanese encephalitis virus and subsequently were examined for the presence of the virus. 42.41% of the tetracycline-treated mosquitoes became infected with the virus, compared with 23.94% of the gregarine-infected mosquitoes and 22.5% of normal, untreated, uninfected mosquitoes.
