A mathematical model of the population dynamics of Culex tarsalis Coq., the primary vector of western equine encephalitis, was developed. All known facts about development in the aquatic phases and the different stages in the adult female gonotrophic cycle, as influenced by daily temperature fluctuation, humidity, wind and rainfall, were incorporated. The spatial account of a flight range was included by considering the breeding site as it changes through the season according to rainfall and other weather conditions. Climatological data pertaining to a breeding site typical of Brookings County, South Dakota, were used for an illustrative computer run of the model.
