Patients (19) with hookworm infections were dewormed .apprx. 200 days after initial infection, and 12 of these 19 (63%) were positive for 4th-5th stage A. duodenale larvae. There may be long, persistent migration before the larvae reached the human intestine. The latency of larvae is probably only an ecologic characteristic of A. duodenale. This finding has important implications for the epidemiology, control and treatment of this hookworm infection.
