Experiments were conducted in Australia on the best age to inoculate calves with strain 19 vaccine, and vaccination of pregnant cows. A single dose of strain 45/20 vaccine gave good protection, with little effect on subsequent serological testing. An improved vaccine might be developed from a stable rough strain of B. abortus, incorporating an improved adjuvant, and perhaps an immunostimulant as well.
