Treatment of Paragonimus westermani infections with bithionol

In Che Ju Island, Korea, bithionol at 40 mg. per kg. body-weight was given on alternate days to 1, 355 patients infected with Paragonimus westermani. Patients considered to have a light infection were given 10 doses; others were given 15 doses. The first 3 to 5 doses were given by health workers but subsequent doses were supplied to be taken without supervision, and some patients reported that they did not complete the course of treatment because of side effects.
