Preliminary studies on paragonimiasis in Ichun, Hokiang and Mutankiang areas of Heilungkiang Province with observations on a new subspecies of Paragonimus westermani--Paragonimus westermani ichunensis

The clinical manifestations of paragonimiasis in the Ichun, Hokiang and Mutankiang areas of China are described, and the morphological characters and measurements of the various life-cycle stages of the parasite obtained from the areas are given. The parasite is considered to be a distinct subspecies, Paragonimus westermani ichunensis n.subsp., and the features which differentiate it from P. westermani and P. westermani var. szechuanensis are tabulated.
