Sulfachlorpyridazine (S) and S with trimethoprim (T) were given in the drinking water to four groups of chickens aged 13-16 weeks (group 1 650 mg S/litre, group 2 100 mg S with 20 mg T per litre, groups 3 and 4 200 mg S with 40 mg T per litre) for 6 days to control an experimental infection with H. paragallinarum. Groups 1-3 had 11 hours, and group 4 16 hours artificial daylight per 24 hours. The drug combination was more effective in reducing clinical signs than S alone. 60 hours after therapy ended, 7, 70, 89 and 96% of birds in groups 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively were free from clinical signs. The organism was recovered from 100, 89, 78 and 26% of birds in the respective groups.
