Three amides of the .gamma.-amino butyric acid (GABA) with fatty acids (linoleic, palmitic and stearic) have been synthesized by the mixed anhydrides method. These compounds (GABA-linoleamide, GABA-palmitamide and GABA-steatamide) present a low toxicity. Pharmacologically a hypothermic activity and potentiation of the haloperidol catalepsy have been observed. Reserpinic palpebral ptosis and catalepsy are also potentiated by these compounds which seeem to develop an interesting activity on the GABA-ergic receptors of the central nervous systems (CNS).
