Eimeria tenella sporozoites were treated with 1-( beta -diethylaminoethylamino)-3,4-cyclohexanothioxanthone before being injected subcutaneously into 6- to 8-day-old chicks. A 2nd dose was given on the 3rd day. After challenge with oocysts, non-immunized controls died of coccidiosis whereas the immunized birds showed no signs of infection, as confirmed by histological examination of the intestine and the absence of oocysts in the faeces.
