The range of the antimicrobial effect was studied for N-(4-phenyl-3-methyl-2-butenyl) carboxymethylpyridinium-chloride relative to gram-positive, gram-negative bacteria and fungi. The preparation is effective with respect to gram-positive, certain gram-negative bacteria and yeast-like fungi of the Candida genus. The compound under study manifests the highest activity in the moderate alkaline medium (pH 7.2-7.8) and lowers the activity in the presence of 10% horse serum and with an increase in the inoculation dose of the microbial material.
