Pharmacological study of histamine induced duodenal ulcers in guinea pigs

Anti-ulcerogenic effect of certain drugs and effect of true and pseudo-pyloric ligation were studied against experimentally induced acute duodenal ulceration, in guinea pigs, induced by multiple injections (i.m.) of histamine acid phosphate. Effect of such drugs was studied on gastric acidity and peptic activity. Adrenaline , atropine, metiamide, cyproheptadine and true pyloric ligation protected animals while tolazoline, propranolol, carbachol and pseudo-pyloric ligation did not protect animals against histamine induced acute duodenal ulceration. Anti-ulcerogenic activity of the drugs could be correlated with their action on gastric acidity.
