Male mice weighing 10 to 12 g were given cobaltous chloride 0.044 mu g/g bodyweight and [14C]phenylalanine 0.1 mu Ci/g by muscle without or with imidazole 0.4 mg/g, inderal 16 mu g/g or indomethacin 4.5 mu g/g. Cobalt increased amino acid incorporation into kidney, liver and pancreas by 80, 84 and 50% after 72, 18 and 72 h, respectively. Imidazole and inderal had little effect on the normal rate of amino acid incorporation into those organs but blocked the stimulation of uptake by Co. Indomethacin inhibited the stimulation of amino acid incorporation into the kidney and pancreas but the effect was not so marked in the liver.
