Cholinesterase activity determinations in human placental homogenates, performed by the potentiometric method, showed reduced cholinesterase values in pre-term deliveries, in which the placental weight is lower. The findings suggest diminished acetylcholine breakdown, which might result in enhanced uterine muscle stimulation.
