The effect of UV irradiation on the diurnal variations in .beta.-N-acetylglucosaminidase (hexosaminidase) activity in the mouse myocardium was investigated. The general dirunal profile of hexosaminidase activity was similar in all the fractions studied (i.e., in the homogenate, supernatant, and sediment obtained after centrifugation at 40,000 g), and showed a considerable increase in enzyme activity at 2000 and 1200 h (i.e., 9 and 25 h after irradiation), as compared with controls. A significant drop in enzyme latency was observed at 2000 h. The effect of UV and X-irradiation on the dirunal variations of myocardial hexosaminidase activity were compared.
