Changes in soluble glycoproteins in different tissues of alloxan diabetic rabbits

The soluble glycoproteins in the kidney, heart and liver of the alloxan diabetic and normal rabbits were fractionated by acetone precipitation and DEAE-cellulose chromatography, and their carbohydrate components analyzed in the different fractions. Qualitative and quantitative changes were observed in most glycoprotein fractions of the diabetic tissues. Generally, many glycoprotein fractions of the diabetic kidney showed a decrease in the carbohydrate components, while there was an increase in most fractions from the other 2 tissues.
