A study to find the optimal conditions for chromatographic analysis of propolis is described; the best method was GLC after silylation. Bioautography showed that 3 propolis samples from France had marked antibacterial properties. Gas chromatography showed that 5 acids not previously reported in propolis are probably present: gentisic, salicylic, hydrocaffeic, o-conmaric and m-coumaric.
