Psychrotrophic microflora study of raw cow's milk

During 1975-1976, 406 samples of raw milk delivered to the Sofia dairy factory and 305 samples of rinsings and/or residual water from transport and processing equipment were examined bacteriologically. Data on incidence of total and psychrotrophic microorganisms classified by season or type of equipment include the following overall information: 41.6% of milk samples had total counts of 1-10 million/ml, 38.4% had counts of 10-50 million/ml, and 14.9% had counts of >50 million/ml; 9.1% of milk samples had psychrotrophic counts of 1000-10 000/ml, 21.9% had counts of 10 000-100 000/ml, 36.3% had counts of 100 000-1 million/ml, and approx. 29% had counts of >1 million/ml; 29-49% of residual water samples had total counts of 1-10 million/ml, and 55-60% had counts of >10 million/ml; 16-27% had psychrotrophic counts of less than or equal to 10 000/ml, 11-32% had counts of 10 000-50 000/ml, 17-23% had counts of 50 000-100 000/ml, 16-30% had counts of 100 000-500 000/ml, 2.6-7.4% had counts of 500 000-1 million/ml, and 2.6-18.5% had counts of 1-5 million/ml.
