Different Pseudomonas spp. are studied as affected by 14 antibiotics and 49 dyes. P. aureofaciens, P. acidovorans and P. aeruginosa strains were most resistant to dyes and antibiotics; the P. alcaligenes, P. vesiculare , P. putrefaciens and P. diminuta strains were most sensitive to dyes and antibiotics. P. cepacia strains were highly resistant to antibiotics but sensitive to some dyes. Aryl methane dyes manifested a wide spectrum of action relative to different Pseudomonas spp. Amino glycoside antibiotics and polymyxin, chloramphenicol and tetracycline affected Pseudomonas. The antimicrobial activity of substances from the group of eosine, acridine and some other dyes was intensified under irradiation with visible light, probably due to the photodynamic effect.
