Mice were inoculated intranasally with Hartmannella culbertsoni so as to produce amoebic meningo-encephalitis. As a result there was a decrease of 35 to 40% in the total lipids, phospholipids and cholesterol of the brain and of 5% in brain dry weight. There was a decrease of 12% protein, and a slight increase of the levels of RNA, DNA, total sugars and reducing sugars. The changes began 72 hours after inoculation and reach a peak at 96 hours just before death.
