At post-mortem examination of 3 donkeys in Switzerland their brains exhibited necrotic purulent meningo-encephalitis with haemorrhage, severe vascular damage and many eosinophils. No parasites could be demonstrated but migrating nematode larvae (probably Strongylus vulgaris) are thought to have caused the lesions.
