Prophylactic use of tetracycline for tropical canine pancytopenia

Chemoprophylaxis of the disease was studied in a military dog unit in Malaysia. Each of 60 Labrador dogs was given 250 mg of tetracycline hydrochloride daily in the feed, and no evidence of clinical infection was seen over a period of four years thereafter. There were no untoward side effects or impairment of training or breeding capabilities. All dogs except two were serologically negative after two years, and all were negative after four years.
