The epizootiology and transmission by Rhipicephalus sanguineus (Latr.) of Ehrlichia canis in dogs in South Africa, together with the parasite morphology, clinical course, diagnosis and treatment are briefly described. Tick control was found to result in virtual elimination of new cases in police and army kennels.l.
