A dog in northern Virginia was found to be infected with Ehrlichia canis. The dog had not been away from the area, which means that this parasite, which was formerly known only at latitudes of less than 38 deg N in the United States, now occurs at higher latitudes. It probably should be considered as present in any area of the United States where Rhipicephalus sanguineus (Latr.) occurs.
