Association of Clostridium perfringens type A with human diarrhoeal cases

C. perfringens type A was isolated from the feces of 19 (13.86%) of 137 individuals studied. Isolation rate was significantly higher in diarrheal cases than in the control group. Of 9 isolates of C. perfringens type A tested for enterotoxin production, 8 were positive. The biochemical characters and heat resistance of the spores of these isolates resembled Hobbs heat sensitive strains of C. perfringens type A.
