The level of susceptibility of animal cells to influenza virus is not associated with adsorption, penetration or transport of virus to the nucleus. The reduced ability of isolated membranes of less susceptible cells to disintegrate the influenza virus surface structures showed that cellular resistance is due to the inhibition of the virus uncoating stage.
