The very large preorbital glands of the muntjac (Muntiacus reevesi) are illustrated. These glands are widely opened and everted during scent marking. The muscles responsible for the opening of the glands are better developed in newborn muntjacs than in the adult North American cervids examined. The muscle probably responsible for the extreme eversion of the glands of muntjacs was not found in the North American cervids.
