Three puppies inoculated s/c with 108-5 mouse LD50 of tick-borne encephalitis virus, isolated from a dog (see VB 42. abst. 6846), did not develop any clinical symptoms. HA inhibiting antibodies with titres of 320-1280 were demonstrated from 2 to 6 months; by the 9th month the titres had decreased to 40-160 but by the 11th month the maximum value was 2560, after which it decreased (320-640). When the animals were killed 570-600 days after inoculation, virus could not be isolated from liver, spleen, kidney and brain, either by tissue culture or by mouse inoculation. Histologically, no inflammatory changes were seen in different parts of CNS.
