The effect of specific vaccination on the persistence of tick-borne encephalitis virus was studied, using various methods for immunization and infection. Experiments were carried out in macaques and hamsters. Preliminary and subsequent vaccinations were considered. Data were presented on the early periods of the virus reproduction in hamsters. The localization of the persisting virus in immunized and nonimmunized macaques was compared. The prophylactic vaccination and vaccinotherapy of tick-borne encephalitis affected some quantitative characteristics of persisting infection, but they cannot serve as radical measures for preventing the persistence of the virus or for eliminating the persisting virus and virus DNA.
