In southern Iran, the inhabitants sleep outdoors in the hot season. Anopheles dthali Patt., A. fluviatilis James and A. stephensi List. are the malaria vectors in Khazeroun, where spraying with DDT and malathion was regularly taking place in 1970. Studies on the biting cycles of these 3 mosquitoes on man or cows in May to December 1970 showed that most biting occurred between 18.00 and 24.00 h, particularly of the first and last species. In southern Iran the main vectors of malaria are Anopheles stephensi (which rests indoors), A. fluviatilis, and A. dthali (both of which rest out of doors). In the hot season, people sleep out of doors. All 3 mosquitoes bite chiefly in the first half of the night.
