The fertility of 5 cultures of house flies with various degrees of resistance to chlorophos and a control sensitive culture was studied. Four cultures (Dushanbe-71, Mytishchi-72, Brest-72, Moscow-72) showed no statistically significant difference from the control in the number of eggs laid and of offspring obtained on the average from 1 female. One culture (Kiev-72) highly resistant to chlorophos showed a decrease of fertility, significant deaths of preimaginal stages in the process of metamorphosis, appearance of a considerable portion (up to 18%) of deformed pupae. Only 19.7-68.5% reached the imaginal stage. Retaining their high resistance to chlorophos even without the effect of the insecticide house fly cultures developed in the laboratory successfully for 20 generations. The acquired high resistance to chlorophos in house flies is not always accompanied by the metatoxic effect of this drug as indicated by an increase in the density of resistant populations of house flies in some places.
