A simple complement-fixation test which is reliable for the differential diagnosis and typing of vesicular stomatitis and foot-and-mouth disease is described in detail. Epithelial coverings removed from the vesicles of infected animals in field epizootics are tested with serums of guinea pigs hyperimmunized with each of the virus types.
