The effect of experimental hypothyroidism in rats on the level of glycoproteins in the serum, kidneys and lungs

The influence of the hypothyroid state (induced by dialy administration of 30 mg/100 g body wt of methyluracil, per os, for three weeks) on the perchloric acid-soluble protein level, protein-bound hexoses and protein-bound hexosamines in the blood serum, kidneys and lung tissue or rat were studied; there proved to be a statistically significant decrease in the serum and tissues of the hypothyroid rats. As to the changes in the protein-bound hexoses/protein-bound hexosamines ratio--they were not significant.
