Effect of phenothiazines on the liver arginase of rats in vitro and in vivo

After it could be shown that the estimation of liver arginase is a suitable test for demonstration of liver damage [14], the influence of Chlorpromazine, Diethazine and Promethazine upon the liver arginase was studied in vitro and in vivo. A clear inhibitory action could be shown in the in vitro experiments up to a concentration of i × 10-5 m, but no decrease of arginase activity was found after a 90 days treatment. There was no reduction of body weight or liver weight in chronic experiments. On the other hand, there was statistical significance of smaller kindney weights compared with the control group.
