Antagonistic effect of actinomycetes to Shigella sonneĭ in the soil

A sharp decrease in Shigella survival rate was caused by actinomycete antagonists. The effect of soil purification was studied. Shigella was introduced into soil previously inoculated with actinomycetes. Actinomycetes apparently play a role in soil self-purification processes. Soil previously infected with Shigella was irrigated with a suspension of actinomycete spores. Actinomycetes may be useful as a biological means of purification of polluted soil.
