During two years of investigation in 17 herds, pneumonic lesions were observed in 1.3% of the liveborn pigs before weaning. The incidence of pneumonia varied among the herds from 0.2-2.7% and was higher in herds having 90 or more farrowings a year than in smaller herds. Among the analysed factors, season of the year and the introduction of new female breeding stock greatly influenced the incidence of pneumonia.
