Suppression of immunity in mice in the nematode Trichuris muris by concurrent infection with rodent piroplasms

Mice were infected with Babesia hylomysci either before (day -2), at the same time as (day 0) or after (day +2) infection with Trichuris muris, or with B. microti on day 0. Injections of sensitized RBC were given on day 7 and the mice were autopsied 6 days later, when the numbers of worms present were counted and the agglutinating antibody response to SRBC determined. In each case the immune response to T. muris and to SRBC was markedly suppressed and worm expulsion was prevented.
