Yeast extract (0.75%) stimulated the production of pectinases and cell synthesis while methylene blue (0.025 mM) activated the synthesis of pectinases. In a selected medium the rate of production of pectinases, utilization of galacturonic acid and different forms of nitrogen, acid production and growth were accelerated between 48 and 144 h. Rapid growth of cells during the period may account for enhanced utilization of pectin and peptone. Methylene blue also stimulated formation of organic acid in the broth.
