The serodiagnostic potential of Schistosoma mansoni circumoval precipitin (COP) antigens was evaluated by testing their immunologic specificity with an ELISA. The serum of 7 of 9 patients with S. mansoni infection reacted more strongly with S. mansoni soluble egg antigen (SmSEA) than with COP antigen. SmSEA and COP antigen also reacted with 3 sera from patients with Fasciola hepatica infection; the cross reactivity of COP antigen was lower than that of SmSEA. Trichinellosis sera had a higher cross-reactivity with COP antigen than with SmSEA.
