Twelve patients with Schistosoma mansoni infection were given 5 daily intramuscular injections of 400 mg antimony sodium dimethylcysteine tartrate (equivalent to a total of 290 mg antimony). Nausea and vomiting occurred in 5 patients, joint pains in one and an epileptic seizure in another. Transaminase levels were raised on the 4th and 8th days. Changes occurred in the electrocardiogram in 3 patients. By the 10th day, egg counts were markedly reduced and were negative in all on the 60th and 90th days of follow-up.
